Attending the Research to Action Conference 2026
I’m looking forward to attending the Research to Action Conference on June 20, 2026, in London, Ontario, hosted by the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging. Pre-conference learning opportunities will also take place on June 19.
This conference brings together researchers, instructors, and health professionals to share evidence-based strategies that support healthy aging and active living.
Some of the sessions I’m especially looking forward to include:
- The Ageless Athlete Within with Angela Schneider, exploring how continuing to pursue physical challenges can support confidence, health, and vitality at any age.
- Protein Requirements for Active Older Adults with Jessica White, focusing on protein needs, recovery, and strategies that may help prevent Sarcopenia.
- Seated Yoga Stretch with Diana Borowiecki, a chair-based session emphasizing gentle mobility, posture, stretching, and breathing techniques accessible for a wide range of mobility levels.
- Exercise for Brain Health in Aging with Jennifer Heisz, highlighting research from the NeuroFit Lab on how physical activity and lifestyle habits influence cognition, dementia risk, and brain resilience.
- Aerobic Exercise Training After a Cardiac Event with Daniel Keir, examining exercise intensity and how to determine the most effective aerobic training dose for individuals with coronary artery disease.
- Scaling Smart with Anne Cooke, offering practical strategies for adapting more advanced exercise routines for older adults with varying fitness and mobility levels.
Pre-conference sessions will also cover topics such as dynamic step training for active older adults, supporting clients with osteoarthritis and joint replacement, and exercise strategies for brain health.
I’m looking forward to learning, connecting with colleagues, and bringing back new ideas that help support healthy, active aging in our communities.

Aqua Stretch For Success: Warm Water Session
Stoney Creek Recreation Centre, Hamilton | March 29
A professional development session focused on aquatic stretching, mobility, and
Inclusive low-impact exercise.
I was pleased to attend the Aqua Stretch For Success
Warm water session presented by the Canadian Aquafitness Leaders Alliance and
led by Master Trainer Dylan Harries.
This session provided a valuable opportunity to explore
How aqua yoga and functional stretching can be safely and effectively
integrated into fitness programming. The focus on movement, flexibility, and
Overall wellness reinforced the benefits of aquatic exercise as an inclusive
and an accessible option for a wide range of participants.
Throughout the session, we covered key areas including
progressive techniques to strengthen and lengthen muscles, dynamic and static
stretching to improve the range of motion, and strategies to help reduce joint pain
and muscle stiffness. The integration of aqua yoga also highlighted ways to
support both physical and mental well-being in a supportive, low-impact
environment.
This experience reinforced the importance of aquatic
exercise in supporting long-term health, mobility, and independence. I look
forward to applying these ideas within LAZER FITTNESS programs, as well as in
my work with the City of Hamilton.
Adaptive Exercise Guest Lecture
Mohawk College | March 25
A guest lecture sharing real-world experience in inclusive and adaptive fitness
with future professionals.
I was honoured to return to Mohawk College to speak with
students in the Adaptive Exercise class within the Health, Wellness, and
Fitness program.
As a graduate of the program, it is always meaningful to
come back and connect with current students. I was joined by my colleague
Spencer, and together we shared our experiences in the fitness industry and
reflected on our journeys since graduating.
During the session, we discussed a variety of topics,
including career pathways in health and fitness, experiences working in
community settings, and the importance of creating inclusive environments for
all participants. I also spoke about my personal experiences working in the
industry while living with vision loss, along with my work through LAZER
FITTNESS and as a fitness instructor with the City of Hamilton.
The session provided an opportunity to engage with
students, answer thoughtful questions, and support the next generation of
fitness professionals. It is always a privilege to give back to the program and
contribute to conversations around accessibility, inclusion, and the future of
the industry.
Accessibility Awareness Day Fair
Mohawk College | March 24
A community event focused on accessibility, inclusion, and connecting through
fitness and education.
LAZER FITTNESS was proud to take part in the
Accessibility Awareness Day Fair at Mohawk College’s Fennell Campus, hosted by
Accessible Learning Services. This year’s theme, Partnership and Inclusion,
highlighted the importance of building accessible communities through
collaboration and awareness.
At the event, I represented LAZER FITTNESS with an
information table, connecting with students and members of the public to
discuss inclusive fitness, healthy aging, and the programs and services I
offer. It was a great opportunity to answer questions, share resources, and
engage in meaningful conversations around accessibility in fitness.
As part of the experience, I also demonstrated adaptive
equipment used in my training, including a talking calculator, tactile
measuring tape, and a talking blood pressure monitor. Attendees had the
opportunity to check their blood pressure and heart rate while learning how
these tools support greater independence and accessibility.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to connect, ask
questions, and take part in the conversation. Events like this continue to
highlight the importance of inclusive fitness and community engagement.
